Wow...that year went quick with very little updates...I will try and keep up this year with pictures, video's and good fishing reports.....2009 we caught a bunch of Tuna, 1 Wahoo which won the Blue water Classic gamefish division for us....a slew of Mahi, a Blue Marlin for my man Otter and serveral White Marlin.....Good year.....Should start tageting Blue Fin here in the next month or so out of Oregon Inlet or hatteras and will definatley update on that...Here's some shots from last year.....Tight lines !>.....Bob

Had Otter, Don, Mark Voodoo and his son Hunter fishing with me today...we had wheels up from my house at 0300..everybody on time and not hungover, which is always a good thing....we make it down to OIFC at approximately 0450 and go grab a couple more bags of ice as it's supposed to be a nice, calm hot day out in the gulf stream..as we get down to the Kitty Hawk area coudn't help but notice that all the flag (big flags) were standing straight out flapping in the light and variable (read 15 - 20) knott wind....Hum, must be a short onshore breeze.....well we get to the ramp and people are discussing the weather...but everybody had driven from somewhere out of town so we all decided to hit it....got in line with the fleet at approximately 0530 and made a quick run out to the stream....started at the 650 line in 71 degree water, nice break with two tones all over the place....I followed those two tones most of the morning with the only thing getting hit was the planer getting bumped by one of the many dolphin swimming around the boat...got down around the 560 line (south of the point) and get our first Mahi...little bailer out of the blue and Mark Voodoo make short work on him....get lines back out and something hammers my TIki bar which is riding on a 6/0 senator and is ripping drag...ends up breaking the mainline which must have had a nick in it that I didn't find.....good bye Tiki Bar and G&H sea witch..enjoy your ride in the deep....get lines back out and another TIki bar and get hammered on my pink spreader bar, otter's on t his one and it's a nice Mahi....left long goes down hard with the 2nd half of the Bull/Cow pair and Mark gets his 9 year old son Hunter belted up and on the rod....Hunter make quick work of his fish and Don stick a nice Gaffer....Otter gets his in which is pulling pretty good on a Large spreader bar and Don sticks this one also...Nice Bull and cow in the 20 pound range...get lines back out around the point in 200 fathoms....Otter tell Mark's 9year old son, Hunter, hey greenhorn, the Capt said only 45 minutes left of fishing...you know you have to bite the head off the Ballyhoo and we'll have luck.....Hunter's all over it, Mark says no hunter and then turns around to check for weed...Hunter then commences to completed RIP the head off a thawed out Ballyhoo, take a couple of chews and then spit it out...HOly shit, I can't believe I just saw this....Hunter then hands the half a Ballyhoo and tells otter to take a bite...Well, what is Otter going to do, a 9year old just called him out...so Otter take a big ole bite of ballyhoo belly and just about hurls, but manages to keep it down...wow, good for you guys, Fear Factor on Still Think'n..I'm loving this..Just about the time Otter is shotgunning a Miller LIte to wash his mouth out...Bam Left long, G&H Sea witch gets hammered, this is no Mahi, it's a tuna...marks on the rod....jig the rest of the rod...right long gets hit but comes unglued, otter's is retrieving the Flat line when a YFT comes cutting through the seas and hammers the G&H Pink ballyhoo, otter drops back and he's on it again and is buttoned up...about this time Mark's YFT shakes the hook so we're down to just Otter...we get the fish boat side and Don stick the first YFT of the year on Still Think'n.....by now it's about 315PM...blowing 15 - 20 Knotts out of the SW and we still have a two hour ride through Nags Head Bike week to get home...so we call it a day...back at the docks most boats I talked with had between 1 and 3 YFT and some Mahi...alot of guys fished south around the 300 line with a couple around the point...bite was very slow all over with fish here and there..most of the Tuna came out of Two tones...

Got home Easter Sunday from South Carolina and started poking around the internet....Saw a weather window for today with it shutting down for the rest of the week...took a peak at the sat shot and saw some good water arond the 000's and south.....started making the calls..Fatbeard - I gotta get my boat today and I'm going Tog Fishing....okSteady - I'm in Minneapolis...(good reason)Jeff "F" - I'm I'm in Boston (good reason)Don (Skinny) - I've gotta work (his 1 day a year he has to actually work...lol)Otter - I've gotta work and I'm taking off friday (take this weekend off every year)Todd (Knott Wishn) - Parents are in town (another good reason)Colt (firefighting fisherman) - I'm on the podium tomorrow or I would goVooDoo - Hell yea I'll go...Ok..I need at least one more person so I post on here looking for riders....no takers...I have them take the post down after a couple hours cause I didn't wanna have to look through volunteers in the morning.....Ok...Me and Mark (VooDoo).....let's do it...Leave Owls Creek at 0545 to a wind free morning, slick ass calm ride out to the 050 line...find 63 degree water and start trolling ...we came out of Rudee same time as Canyon Express who headed way south as he's moving his boat to OI for the spring season.....no hits for a while so we call up Canyon Express who's about 10 - 15 miles south of us and he's into em pretty good.....We pick up lines and head south....find Canyon Express and put lines out....We see a very large school of two tones and head towards em....as the spread goes through the two tones the left long and left short explode....I haven't heard the 50 wides scream like that in a very long time.....Oh no, we've got a double on and there's only two of us...we let the two rods go as Mark and I clear lines.....I had told mark to get the belt out and be ready so he's harnessed up and I'm fighting mine from the gunnell...no time to get belt on at this point.......about an hour later we get marks fish boatside and I leave my rod in the aft Rod holder and go over to get marks fish in the boat....I get on leader as the fish is doing his death circle...I tell mark to unhook the rod, and grab the gaff....Putting the drag down lower in case I loose control of the fish....Mark times it perfect and stick the BFT in the head...I grab the 2nd gaff and stick him....start to lift him over the gunnel but my gaff pulls.....put the steel in his eye and we hoise this big bitch in the boat.....Go back to my rod and work him in...get him on leader and working on getting the hook out..the SOB bit me !...I've got the marks to prove it....as we're trying to remove the hook he rubs up on the side of the boat and breaks off...that's cool....clean release.....AT this point we're frigging done man.....it's a little after noon....we're down at the 830 line (78 Nautical miles south of Rudee) and we've got no more fight left in us......Clean up the mess and motor home.....Don and Billable meets us at the fishing center and Don graciously volunteers to clean the fish at my house while Mark and I clean the boat up.....Jeanette serves up some Sashima and Cavichi at the Bargola.....to go with our ice cold beers.....I'm just happy to have some Tuna on Still Think'n again...it's on now...!.....I'm sure I'm leaving some stuff out but Mark can fill in...He did a great job on his fish today......it's all good.....

Well.....Hit up OI on Sunday....no fish for us so this will be short and sweet...conditions were good we just we not on em today....Reports should hopefully be better in the future..until then, enjoy this Video...

Catching up

well as we're starting to look forward to the upcoming offshore season..the striper season was poor for quantity but quality was pretty good....we landed a 51 pounder, 46 pounder and 44 pounder this year....big fish but not alot of them...the cold really pushed the fish offshore early this year...maybe there will be a decent spring run..who know, won't be me as I"ll be offshore pretty much from here on out....here's the 3 biguns we caught mostly eeling off the eastern shore...

Catching a Blue Marlin is the Pinnacle in offshore fishing and not a whole lot of people get to experience the ferocity and power of one of these beasts. Still Think'n has had 3 shots at the blue ones this year, landing one yesterday....This one was special because Don Malkowski, who gives so much to this sport had never closed the deal on one of these beasts of the deep, for various reasons, all of which are common to all anglers having a Blue Marlin on the end of a thin plastic line.....Woke up an hour late yesterday morning for reasons I won't get into and had 3 missed calls on my phone....Don called, Otter called and John Hamilton called wondering where I was at....dammit, the alarm clock didn't go off so we're running late.....Otter and Don met me at the house while Jim and I were loading the boat and we got underway...first stop the gas station to fill up....finally got in the water at around 515 or 530 or so.....hit the mouth of the inlet and found some nice swells with some wind chop coming out of the SE...little choppy but not too bad...made 28 - 30 knots heading out to the 420 line 250 fathoms where there have been some big-eye's spotted and hooked recently....found Oblivion (Dave TRax) already working the area so we put line out....about 2 minutes into the troll the first of many Mahi is hooked...My buddy Jim is down from Marlyland so we give him the rod but this little flip flop comes off the line....start trolling my area and come on a beautiful mark about 50 - 100 feet down...thinking this is the big-eye's we're looking for we work the area hard...along with Dave Trax but nothing but small Mahi come out of the mix.....I start trolling north between 200 - 300 fathoms trying to find some Tuna....find a long line set with a flyer on it and there are literally 100's of fish under this set up.....we decide to get some meat in the boat so we start bailing...well after trying to flip 3 or 4 fish in the boat and getting broken lines we figure out these are a little bigger class of bailers so we start gaffing these guys as they are about 5 - 10 pounders all over us....we get about 25 fish in the box and I call linees in and start the troll again....Now I'm planning on heading up towards the canyon but we get a call from somebody down on the 350 line saying he just got hammered by Tuna but lost all 5 of the fish...this is all I need to hear...get the trolling lines in and put out two of Don's high speed Wahoo lures with some inline sinkers.....these new lures Don has built look awesome trolling behind the boat at 15 knots but nothing hit while doing out high speed troll....get down to around the 350 line and it's loaded with sulpher lines, weed lines, temp breaks going from 79 - 81 and more birds than I have seen all year.....we get lines back out and immediately get lazered by a Wahoo on a G&H pink and crystal sea witch with Mylar.....rerig and get lines back out....steady pick of Mahi which most of them were released...kept a couple of nicer gaffers but we probably caught near 70 Mahi yesterday..they were everywhere..and just the right eating size for Mr. Blue Marlin.....I told they guys that there had to be bigger fish in here so we're working this area the rest of the day.....about 315PM the left long (Pink and white G&H Sea witch) gets hammered....this is no flip flop Mahi....lines screaming off the 50 wide...I'm thinking Wahoo and Jim picks up the rod....well about a 250 pound Blue marlin decides to show himself and all hell breaks loose....I tell Don to get in a belt...start screaming at everybody to clear lines fast because this 50 wide is loosing line fast.....the crew performs flawlessly and gets everything cleared and moved forward.....Don's belted up and Jim hands off the rod and Still Think'n begins the chase......Now Don's line is directly off the back of the boat, but about 200 yards or more in front of me I see the beast doing an arial dance trying to spit the sharp pointy thing on the side of his face.....Oh shit Don...big bow in the line...you need to crank crank crank while I run this fish down.....John Hamilton (captain of Norfolk Blue) is coaching Don along, giving him water and encouraging him....Otter is on the Video and Jim is standing around goin...why did I give him that fish..lol...just kidding he was keeping an eye out for the fish and snapping pictures.....I get the fish closer and behind the boat and he comes up again maybe 50 - 100 yards behind the boat doing his dance again....I start backing down on this fish to get leader for Don's first release and water is pouring into the transon.....uh oh..clear those pine needles out of the scuppers, water is building up...hahaha....we get the fish close again, John Hamilton is standing on the transom reaching for all he's worth, leader is right there, almost in reach...and ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ Off goes the fish again, he's not ready to give Don the scratch just yet......more danciing and I'm backing down hard again....crank crank crank Don....keep working it man he's almost here....well, about 350 or so the leader comes onto the tip of the rod, John grabs leader and we call scratch on a Blue Marlin for Skinny's Kid !!!!!!!!!!......we work the fish for a couple of more minutes and then break him off on the leader...130# fluro is strong but can only take so much but it held on long enough for a release...Congrats to Don for his first Blue marlin...thanks John, Otter and Jim for a great day on the water and WHERE THE HELL ARE THE TUNA.....Until next time........Bob

THe Wahoo are back !

Departed Owls Creek promptly at 0400 with Otter, Scott Sinclair, Mark (voodoo) and Johnny (Mr. Blue Marlin on billable) to a gorgeous ride out to the fishing grounds....had the spread out by 0615 and started trolling....had a meat spread out but not much happening...finally around 0930 or so the Left Long G&H Sea Witch gets hammered...we're thinking White Marlin because there has already been a couple caught....Scott Sinclar is up because he doesn't have a Marlin under his belt and we wanna throw somebody in the creek.....Great fight and finally get color and it's no Marlin...it's a big ass Wahoo all lit up with his stripes just glowing Neon Blue....Voodoo sticks him and he's in the boat....nice fish goes to where fish go to die...STILL THINK'N COFFIN ....Spend the rest of the day trolling around with a Marlin spread...circle hooks, teaser ...the whole nine yards....Get two whites in the spread that steal our Circle hook baits but don't come tight.....Get two nice Mahi on our Circle hooks that dont come tight....Call it quits around 3pm and make the run in to Fisherman's Wharf to weigh the fish....Now he's a nice one for sure and bets are taken on how much he weighs...I call 62 pounds even and he goes 62.2 pounds for Scott's Citation Wahoo.....Now I know why Circle hooks are good for conservation....Because they don't catch fish !.......

5 July Rudee

I normally have great luck the week before the Virginia Beach Tuna Tournament and this week was no exception. Had Steady and Dave H onboard today. Had a couple of cancellations but we were locked and loaded to go this morning so off we went......Left at the crack of 0515 and headed towards the Hot dog to work with Dave and crew on Billable ours......We scored early with a couple of Bailers...kept to for Dave's refrigerator and returned the rest to the ocean to grow into bigger dolphin if they can learn to stop eating baits bigger than they did....wasn't a whole lot of action at the Hot dog so we went in search to an area I had heard was holding some nice Blue Fins....and it was.....we faught off tiny mahi until around 1100 when the long left rigger starts smoking.....nice fish on and he's hooked solid.....Steady gets the rod out of the T-top and we harness Dave into a belt and harness and the fight begins...those dam blue Fin are the hardest fighting tuna out there and this one worked Dave over pretty good but he's a tough guy and wouldn't give up.....had major drag on this fish and he wasn't budging....about 40 minutes later we are able to stick a couple of gaffs in the fish..he taped out at 57" and we thought we had us a citation......weighed the fish at the fishing center and he went 98 Pounds....just shy of a Citation for Dave H....

we left Owls creek at the crack of 0400, the wind was about 15 - 18 knots out of the north on the way out but calmed down beautifully in the afternoon. We did a drive by on the Weather buoy (which is still where it's supposed to be) and came up empty handed. At that point we started working South and east with High Hopes, Leaky Teaky, Waterman, Mad Hatter rounding out the group. All boats worked well together keeping each other informed. Our first bite came at about 350 fathoms and just was a nice Bull that Dave immediately jumped on the rod with cat like reflexes...years of Marine Corps training ensured Dave was Top Dog on the rod yesterday. Colt was a little tired from driving in from elizabeth city but would prove to be an outstanding Pit Man on Still Think'n...I really enjoy seeing guys come on the boat and jumping right into the game....not just sitting around waiting for Steady, Otter, Don or somebody else to do the rigging...If you get it wrong, well we'll letcha know and then show you the "Still Think'n" way of doing it...may not be the right way but it's my way....so we keep trolling to the deep and end up in 78 degree water...kind mixed green/blue but very pretty water.....got to the 1000 fathom line and turned north towards Leaky Teaky who said they got broke off by what they think was a Big-Eye on a TLD25......had something come in the spread and knock a couple of baits around about the same time Bob Sinclair report a Blue sighting.....was it a bill...well we'll never know because he didn't come tight......time to start trolling back inshore during which time my eagle Eye crew starts spotting scatter lumber...some held fish some didn't...it was very new wood so hadn't had time to set up yet but will be pretty awesome with the conditions over the next few days...this wood was in 500 fathoms about the 150 line - 180 line but will probably push inshore with the gulf stream pushing in the way it looks.....Found some two tones which turned out to be one of the biggest schools of Porpoise I've seen in a few years...acres of them with baby porpoise just putting on a show as you would see at Sea-World....getting a good 6 - 10 feet of air not more than 10 feet from the boat...you could feel the splash at times they were so close.....We thought this was the spot so I worked the two tones for about 2 hours before it was time to head in......Great day...great group of guys....Colt did a bang up job in the Pit....Don, as always on top of everything...and Dave was the Man on the rods yesterday and also spent alot of time in the Still Think'n Tower (on the gunnels) spotting debris for possible Mahi attack....Thanks for coming guys and we'll get out there in a few weeks.Here's what Captain Dave Wessner of Billable Ours looks like with a fishing pole in his hands.....He fast like a rabbit yesterday with the bites..

1 June Oregon Inlet Tuna Tournament

What a nice day Friday was....The absolute calmest conditions I have seen in a few years.....Ran out with Kent and the rest of the Pirates cove fleet and I must have looked at my position wrong when Water Dog asked for my position, I guess I was about 20 miles off.....in my defense however...Kent was about 15 miles off of where he said he was...I guess he must have looked at his GPS wrong also !...lol......conditions looked good where we set out....Tinker makerals everywhere...nice water...a Green sticker working the area but it was not to be in that location so we trolled to the Tuna hole looking for a good bite.....decided at about 1030 to head up to the 950 line to fish a little sliver of water I had seen on an Ocean temps s hot and found a 67 - 71 degree hard break with slicks everwhere...we're thinking it's gonna be loaded with YFT...well the Mahi onslaught ensued and never stopped the rest of the day....we landed probably about 60 mahi from 10 pounds up to 26 pounds....we kept 26 of them for table fair and commenced to release another 25 - 30 20 pound class Mahi !.....ran in at about 40 knots and weighed in our Mahi 26 pounder and held onto first place in that division for the remainder of the day.Day 2 we decided to pound it out with the fleet in the Tuna hole area...we laid down in fishy looking water and got lines in at 0730, fleet immediately laid down all around me but we worked it...marked fish several times but only had the Tuna come up for me once.....had a crash on the Get Reel TIki Bar...he comes off, then the left short gets hammers and Don's on it...then the left long gets hammered and mikes on that one....Don's comes unglued about five minutes into the fight....big Tuna but gone....Mikes fish comes to the boat all lit up and steady is on the leader...fish is doing his death circle and never gets up enough for a gaff shot when he comes unbuttoned at the boat....this one looked about 40 - 45 pounds to me.....Get lines back out and continued to troll from the 640 line to the 660 line with not another strike....winds are steadily increasing going from about 15 knots to about 25 knots around 1345 we take one over bow and over my console completely drenching me and the rest of the crew...we decided we had enough and with the seas building started heading in...the Inlet was howling..thank god it was a SW wind so it wasn't stacking up the waves but it must have been 40 knots as Kent said....three boats were blown ot out of the channel at various location from the inlet to the OIFC.......Had a great time working with Grady Man (Kent) and having a few beers with Randy and crew.....Neal (Wired up) and Dave (Billable Ours) were up there supporting and made some kick ass Mahi Taco's Friday night for us....I heard Felix the Kat, was there but didn't see him, saw Jeff from black Pearl on his way down to Hatteras, Shortcomings and his motley crew ( didn't see him 2nd night)......Just a fantastic time....We locked up the Outboard division and took some cash home...What a crew...Otter, Steady, Don and Mike worked like a well oiled machine....Dave has video of the Mahi Madness they were definatley on their A-Game....Huge thanks to MIke and Phil from G&H Lures who overnighted some new colors I wanted to give a try on Tuesday night...they were actually what got hit by the YFT on day2 and were absolutely destroyed by the Mahi on day 1.....Congrats to everyone who fished.....it was a good time and day 2 was not a day for the feint of heart for sure !.......Don and Dave have Pictures hopefully they'll get em posted uphere soon....Bob

15 May Rudee Inlet

Well..what can I say...Dave Trax Called me yesterday looking for a ride...I hadn't seen the sat shot yet so I told him I would call him back later....Got home..saw the shot, called work and said let's do it !....rounded up a crew of My Man Stready, Todd Beck, Dave Trax and Andrew....great guys all of em.....we left Rudee at approximately 0415ish and started rolling...beautiful ride out, rolling swells, minimul wind until we hit the hot water at the 220 line in about 300 fathoms...We get a spread out at about 0650 and start trolling north...beautiful water, birds, slicks , all you could ask for.....we got hammered by Football size Blue fin tuna and went 7 for 7 on that round....kept 1 as allowed by NMFS and released the rest.....trolled north....and bam...3 nice Mahi are on...we land all of them and continue on...get to about the 350 line and the temp starts going from 71 to 69 degrees and wam....6 YFT on.....3 anglers get on a rod....Steady is clearning the Planer rod and WAM he gets hit....4 fish hooked up right....I get off the wheel and clear line so we now have 4 tight and anglers are fighting fish....steady gets his fish to the boat and I Leader the fish and steady sticks the rod in the holder and sticks the fish....he's putting his fish in the box and I gaff Andy's fish and get him in the boat....Todd Beck is next up he meets steel and visits Still Think'n fish box....TRAX fish is boatside and on leader and line gets under the boat and pops....ok...3 in the boat.....we regroup and get lines out again and bam...fish on the shotgun, BAM...fish on the left long.....Trax is on one of the fish and Todd is on the other one.....Trax's fish starts running to the boat and Dave is cranking like crazy...and then the fish turns and his mainline pops....must've got chaffed from one of the other lines....But we work Todd's fish in and get him in the box.....Troll, troll, troll...big ass Mahi hits the left long and steady is on it....get this Mahi in the box and he goes 38.8 pounds....dam nice fish....pulled lines at 1 and headed in....dam great day out there....I feel better now about last week....The fish are definately in the water if we get another chance at them....here's some shots from the day....bob

11 May oregon Inlet

Well..first of all thank to Billable Dave, Otter and Don for going fishing with me on a sketchy forecast. I saw a window for some great weather sandwiched between two fronts and knew that the bite would be on. And it was on in a big way but just not for Still Think'n this week. We hit the inlet with the first charter boat heading out and there were a few bumps in the inlet but nothing bad. Once we crossed the bar the seas laid out, the wind was dead ass calm and the heavens opened up and it was the absolute best weather day fishing for me this year. No wind to speak of all day, beautiful swells and just great company.The Big eye bite definatley turned on yesterday and we were right in the middle of it, but we could not buy a Tuna bite yesterday to save our necks. We zigged, zagged, changed baits, changed speeds and did everything we could think of to get a fish to hit. All around us boats stopped fighting large Tuna....Thanks to C-note Connor for calling us and the entire OI fleet into an awesome weedline holding some really nice Mahi Mahi. We spent about 30 minutes just getting the skunk off the boat and a little meat in the boat and went back to banging it out trying to catch a Tuna....but yesterday was not to be our day. We all talked about it and there was nothing else we could have done, just wasn't our day...Final talley - 5 gaffer/hoister Mahiweather - absolutely beautifulGreat day on the water with great friends....going to be out there again next weekend so hopefully we get the voodoo off the boat !...and land some Tuna..

26 April Oregon Inlet

Well...my crew from left week needed time to recoup so I rounded up a fresh group of anglers consisting of Otter, Surfer Dave and Captain Neal of the wired up,...left my house bright and early at 0250ish and got to the inlet around 0450....finally got underway around 0530 as the fleet was late leaving due to a accident on the causeway....Beautiful day out there..little breezy but not too bad.....slow fishing...we boated a couple of Gaffer Mahi early in the morning and then ended the day out with a lone YFT which was the first one of the year for Still Think'n.....great time was had by all....had fun working with Kent...Saw Ktrain coming back from hatteras..he had some trailer problems on the way home though......So...until next time....Still Think'n out.....

Well...my wide load permit for my 10'6 fatass beam did not arrive so I made the call to leave from Rudee Inlet this morning at 3AM Sharp....onboard were Billable Ours Dave, Skinnys Kid Don, JSuperjeff (Jeff) and Steady....the weather was definately not light and variable for the 105 mile run south to where the water had pushed out to...we ran to where the last good shot was and the water was nasty Green and cold....so we picked up and headed directly into the SW wind at 20Kts and ended up finding the edge at around the 500 line south of the point...we proceeded to catch a bunch fo peanut and finally get a nice 17 pound Bull on the line which the crew made short work of....called lines in around 1PM cause we had a long run back and I was frankly worried about gas.....ended up back at Fishing center around 4PM for a total round trip of 275 miles today !...wow....awesome day but bumpy and long....here's a couple of pics..

Went out around 1100 with Todd (Knot Wish'n) for a little recon....actually we were both bored on a holiday and the weather was really good so we gave it a shot...Ended up limited out off the Ramada right around the 3 mile line with about 9 other boats.....fish were not hot and heavy but man there were marks/birds and everything else out there.....Cleaned the boat and fish in 72 Degree weather in late February....awesome...Thanks for going with me today Todd...

well...steady and I hit the water about 1130 or so....we ran north a bit and put a spread out....we finally figured out that 6 knots with sea witches, islanders, spreader bars and Penn International 80's wouldn't work so we put some Penn 6/0, TLD 25's and a few other odds and ends out. We trolled for a couple of hours and finally got hooked up to one of them there stripper fish. First one of the season and only one of the day. Water was 52 and nice....Entertainment provided on Channel 68 by Fatbeard and about 300 of his friends....Congrats to Jeff and CIRWIN for a great day at the high rise....we fished ocean side of Smith Island....Bob

Oregon Inlet 8 December

really crazy day yesterday...we missed the fleet heading out and I didn't have any tracks for OI left on my GPS. So..about 5 small boys pulled out and started the run out of OI...well, one of the boats a couple of boats in front of us went out of the channel and went into the mud on the right of the channel as your heading out....chain reaction and 3 or 4 boats including me went into the mud. Had to trim the motors way up and back out of there.....so we get out, run the crack and get up on plane...well Still Think'n is listing hard to port, appears one of my trim tabs had mud or something in it which prevented from coming all the way up...stopped the boat and Otter gets over the side and clears the planer. Jeff and Todd and crew on black pearl comes by to make sure we were OK..tks for that buddy, appreciate the assist. Get back up on plane and everything is running great.....get lines in and start the troll...well, we find a huge POD of porpoise with only a couple of Charter boys on them...we start to work them and the big boys (Charters) were pushing me all over the place man...I would turn right and they would dog me...it was pretty bad. so we left and went north to the 750 line and were working behind a trawler with no luck so we went back to the 700 line but went deeper than most other boats and found Black Pearl out there working a POD of two tones. We spent a couple of hours working them by ourselve (with black pearl) before we come tight on the TIKI bar. This fish was pulling hard man...we thought it was a beast..get him in the boat and find the line had wrapped around his gill plate which he was so hard to get in. I don't know how the line didn't get cut as the gill plate is pretty sharp.That was about it for the day...about 15 minutes after I get a fish in the boat here comes the fleet and they were on us again.....tough day out there for sure....but had a blast, ERIC did great dealing with my crew of scalleywags and all their hijinxs...Otter got right back in the swing of things after some time off and DON and Steady as always were on their a-game..well other than the naps they both took while we were fishing ! Guess they need nappy time....tha's gonna wind it up for 2007 offshore....but 2008 is only 3 weeks away

It sure is nice to go home and be with family for Thanksgiving. I am fortunate enough to have parents that still live in Palm Beach..One of the best Sailfishing grounds on the east coast. We made it down there on Wednesday and after unpacking the truck spent some time working on Mark's Boat. Mark is one of my buddies from way back in middle school who I have kept in touch with and fished with for over 30 years now. We always have a great time. We got the boat working right (22 Foot Edgewater) and planned on leaving Friday morning at the ungodly hour of 7AM. Now mind you, that is still considered an early start by palm beach standards.We pulled out of my Dad's canal into the intracoastal waters to 72 Degree sunny morning. we decided to buy a dozen Goggle Eye...the preferred bait for sails down in Palm beach. So loaded up with some fresh live bait we made out way out of Lake worth inlet past the old Pumphouse where as kids we often skipped school and went surfing amongst other things I really don't want to get into...lol...The ocean was flat as could be and the sun was shining just as I remembered as a kid fishing out of there on my Dad's old riveria and many other boats later in life. We decided to put our baits out inn 100 Feet just off the breakers, with Palm Beach Island and the Kennedy compound as the backdrop we really couldn't ask for much more. about 10 minutes after we got our lines in the baits start freaking out...ok this is it....tighten up on the drag and bam..slack line...pull em both in and both have been lazered by something toothy, probably Kingfish !..this happened many times before Mark finally said screw this and made a couple of 1 Foot wire leaders and put the remaining few goggle eyes out....My fish starts doing the oh shit dance and I see a bill slashing my bait...I freespool the TLD25 and hook up with a really healthy sail..mark is feeding his fish also and comes tight but the fish Mark had on threw the hook. This sail is pulling drag pretty steadily so we decide chase her down. A couple of jumps and about 20minutes later she's boatside and I hand the rod to mark while I bill the fish to get a few shots. we spend about 10 minutes reviving the fish and she kicked a couple of times and waiver her sail at us as she swam off back into the blue looking for the next meal.The winds had shifted and kicked up to the NW at about 15 - 20 so we decided to float one more time before calling it a day. one more sail piles on our bait and is hooked up, this fish jumps and is the smallest sailfish I have ever seen. Probably not much bigger than a small gaffer dolphin but just beautiful...Well he spit the hook also.... Had a wonderful time but the wife and both kids had come down with a bad cold so we decided not to fish on Saturday so I could get them both home so they could recover.....as always I had a blast seeing family and friends back home. Beautiful 32 degree departure from Owls creek this morning with Black Pearl following us out. We dropped in at about the 940 line 50 fathoms to 68 degree water...trolled down to the 930 and then turned north. Ran into Silver Lining up around the 000's. Lots of scallop boats out there. Saw some busting porpoise about the 030 line 100 fathoms and turned on them..hooked up on the shotgun and Don's on the rod. land first YFT of the day...40# fish.....Follow the porpoise and get anothe YFT on the shotgun and Rockn Robin is on this one...mike works it hard and Don gaff's the fish in the Tale...Captain Fatbeard was on the leader for both fish and did a great job....Andrew got some pretty good video today...so..we went 2 for 2 on the YFT...water was 69 degrees and dirty at the 030 - 040 line...100 fathoms

Had a really nice run out..big swell out of the east with about 12 second intervals...Sunrise was awesome....Found the break out at about 500 fathoms on the 340 line and started putting lines out...before all lines were out the long left rigger Pink G&H Sea witch get hit....then goes slack...then the shotgun goes off blue and white islander behind the boon bird....we strap Andrew in and about 10 minutes later landed what turned out to be a Citation Wahoo going 35 Pounds at the scales. caught this fish at 0730 and that turned out to be it for the day...Lots of boats out there not doing much..few wahoo, scattered Mahi and somebody said they had a Blue Marlin hooked up briefly...fished the while range today from the 400 line all the way down to the 180....Wind kicked up a bit for the ride in...SW wind against a East swell..little bumpy but smoothed out nicely at 20miles out.....Great day...Tks to Steady, Don and Andrew for a great day..congrats to Andrew on his Citation...I think we're done Tuna fishing out of VB and will be heading to OI for our next Tuna hunting adventure....Enjoy some Pics.

Well..nobody answered the call for anglers so Steady and myself left Owls Creek at 0445 to a beautiful morning. Headed for the 500 line where we thought the break was. Got out to the 100Fathom line at the 506 and water was 63 and ugly...saw the Rudee Angler out there so we put lines out and messed around for a little while. Water on the canyon was 62 - 63 max and didn't look good. We finally pulled lines and went hunting. Headed south and ended up around the 420 line in 200 fathoms and water went up to 66 and we saw acres of two tones.Put the spread out and got hammered on the way back boone bird with blue/white islander. Steady's on the first fish so I clear lines while trying to keep the boat straight...get the fish to the boat, I get on leader and steady puts the rod in the holder and sticks the fist one....\get lines back out and the boone bird/Blue and white islander gets hammered again in the two tones...I'm up on this one and steady clears lines,,,stick another YFT and put in the box...two 50# class fish.....We had a beer and looked up and the Porpoise were gone...spent the rest of the day looking for them.....so we went 2 for 2...with 2 guys...that's alot of meat..

QUick report for those going out tomorrow....we fished from the 200 line south..50 - 100 Fathoms.....Had porpoises early and called Good Grief into them..he picked up the 1 Tuna that was in that pod...we fished them for a long time but no bites...marking fish about 300 - 400 feet deep but couldn't get them to come up.....Caught a 25Lb Wahoo and about 5 mahi...had several bite offs...weeds were terrible but I think they may form up as the wind layed down really nice at the end of the day.....I have no real info on what happened north of us today...I will post some pics later...good luck...Bob

Yesterday was the kind of day to remember how much you really have to love this stuff to keep offshore fishing...The fishing was slow all around, the weeds were terrible but the company and the weather was fantastic....Had Don, Steady and Captain Fatbeard onboard. We rolled out of RUdee at 0430ish to a beautiful slick calm day with clear skies and bright starts. The 1/8 moon lit the way straight to the canyon which we arrived at 0630 and put lines out as the sun was just peaking up above the horizon. water temps ranged from 74.2 - 75.8 with scattered weeds and gentle rolling swells. There was a small school of porpoise which we worked to no avail, one of the porpoise actually flipped his tail and hit the bow of my boat....I"ve never had this happen before and this would turn out to be one of 2 fish hitting still think'n today !Found a formed up weedline and trolled it for a while, pulling one Mahi out from under the weeds. There were so many big weed patches but almost all of them were empty all life except these little Jacks that were ferocious and were magling our bait but not big enough to stay hooked.We trolled and trolled, found a weedline next to the triple buoys North West of the Canyon tip and the Planer rod trips and starts pulling drag. Don't on the rod and knows we have a nice Hoo on...saw him a couple of times as he got close to the boat before making another run. I'm gonna say he was bigger than the 83Lb Wahoo I caught a couple of years ago...Dam fish threw the hook right behind the boat...During the ride back Don spots a Giant Ocean Sunfish..he tells me to put the boat in neutral as this gian goes under my boat...we hear a THUMP as the boat glided slowly over the Giant Mola Mola making this the 2nd fish of the day to hit Still Think'n...luckily no damage....SLow the rest of the day....gorgeous ride back in with Slick Ass calm conditions...the crew was hilarious today ....Got back to the house, cleaned the fish and boat and hung out at the bargola for a while...went to bed early...Good times and good crew....can't wait to get out there again

Great day....met up with my crew for today....consisted of Steady, Keith, Surfer Dave and Scott Sinclair...all on time and ready to roll.....put the boat in the water at 0400...Not a hint of wind in the air on the beautiful clear morning....Water was flat ass calm...upon leaving Rudee...my boat looked like it had Neon lights underneath from the Phosporus that was in the water....neon Blue was under the boat, in the wake and the spray off the side of the boat..it was really cool...Ended up at the mark we were shootin for prior to 0600 and there was no light to speak of...we ended up waiting for the sun to come up and made a couple of passes at the weather buoy...nobody home....headed east to 100Fathom line and found a really nice weed line with tons of Sulpher....trolled that for a while and picked up about 8 Mahi...mix gaffers and bailers....had one really nice hit that screamed drag like a tuna but came off...pulled lines and went to shallow water to see what was happening west side of the Cigar...found another line and trolled it but nothing came of that....Put still think'n in gear and headed north...found a 4x4 with loads of bait underneat....trolled it a few times and pulled a Mahi and a nice Wahoo off it....went north again and the winds started howling....pulled lines at around 1400 and was back in port before 4PM...ended up with 9 Mahi and 1 Wahoo....Had 1 bite off from the board also...Oh yea..Scott Sinclair ended up catching a Citation WEEDFISH...he has a Mahi on and the fish went right back into the weeds and ended up pulling about 20 pounds of weed out of there...the fish was gone after a 30 minute fight on stand up gear....Great job Scott !......Bob

9/8/2007 White Marlin Blitz

Had the pleasure of fishing with some good friends on the wired up yesterday to get in on the awesome White Marlin bite happening east of the Norfolk Canyon....Left out of Rudee inlet at about 0500 with just a hint of a swell from Gabrielle down south and headed to the 500-800 fathom mark just a tad bit south of the Norfolk canyon. Pulled back the throttles at around 0745 to beautiful water, gentle 3 foot rollers and what looked like the entire Ocean City fleet bearing down on us. Get a good white marlin spread out and commence to work the area.spot a cutter working the left teaser and he quickly moves off to our big bait islander with hoo and suicides the fish, as I'm clearing the left side I see a bill swatting at the right long rigger dink bait..feed him..he gone, comes back feed him again, he gone...drop back and he picks it up again and I finally get him to come tight....Don's fish is on the 80 so as he cranks his fish in mine is steadily pulling line off the tld20...finally get a good release on Don's fish and Neal (captain) slams the boat in reverse and commences to help me get line back on the fish....got a good shot of the fish airborne before the release...so we're 2 for 2 by 0945....2nd pack of whites comes into the spread and smacks around everything..I feed the right long dink bait again and hook up....this is a hoss of a white and quickly gets me into the backing before everything is cleared and we can back down on the fish....get a good release on this fish also...that's 3 ...have a couple of window shoppers that didn't come tight....then left long gets whacked and Don feeds the fish and hooks up...release 4...another suicide on the left Islander/hoo combo which don cranks in again on the 80...Awesome bite down there....boats from ocean city to Oregon inlet were fishing and catching yesterday...I don't know how many packs of whites I saw cruising/cutting through the water...glad I got out there before this storm hits...don't know what the waters' gonna do after this blow...but I can't wait to get out there and find out !.....tight lines....Bob

Fished with Tom, Keith, Dolph, Otter and I on Sunday. Right sporty heading out but the Southport ate the waves up and we got lines in around 0730. Not much happening where we were at and I heard of a bite at a different location so we pulled up lines and headed in that direction. We got there to acres of busting Yellowfin Tuna but they were not picking up what we were putting down. We chased Tuna schools all day and ended up boating two really nice Citaion Tuna, one going 76 pounds and the other going 74 pounds. Great day in preparation for the Blue water Classic next weekend....here's some shots....Bob

Blue Marlin release 29 July 2007 Waynes World

Pulled out of Owls creek little late 0500...had my GPS set for the 44 Fathom wreck to start fishing...about 10 miles short of the mark I spot a pod of porpoise so I pull back the throttles and Steady, Otter and Captain Fatbeard put start putting out lines.....the WWB was out, steady was letting out the 2nd long rigger when the first long rigger gets hammers.....then the WWB gets hammered but gets cut off....Jeff is on the fish that came tight and skillfully battled the 62# YFT to the boat where Otter sticks a gaff in him.....Get reset out and about 20 minutes later the left long rigger...(G&H sea witch with Mylar) gets nailed...otter grabs the rod when the fish jumps....Steady yells Marlin....Otter said yea, it's a white...I said No, I think it's a Blue one....fish is swiming to the boat when Otter hands the Rod Off to Jeff since he was a billfish virgin and we wanted to throw him in the water...the fish gets about 100 Yards off my stern when he sees the boat...he greyhounded and when he did, there was no doubt what he was....Mr. Blue Marlin is hooked up on still thinkin....We get all the lines clear while he's screaming line off the Penn International 50W and once lines are cleared I send Jeff up to the bow and commence to run the fish down...gotta love a center console...he makes a lot of jumps before he comes to the side of the boat..steady has leader and is pulling the fish up to Bill him and release the fish...I tried to take a picture but it ended up just being Steady's hand on the leader...he was about 2 feet down and went under the boat and broke the leader ....great release on a Blue one for Mr. Captain Fatbeard, who is now calling himself a Professional Marlin Fisherman (PMF).we celebrate our Blue release and finally I get the crew to get lines back out and I decided to change up and put out a Pink Sea Witch (oh no not blue and white)...well of course this gets hammered and is Screaming drag...Otter is on the pole and finally gets the fish turned....10 minutes battles puts a 32 Pound Wahoo in the boat....this is all before 10 o'clock.Spent the rest of the day playing with Whites who kept coming in the spread but just batting my baits around...pulled lines in at 2PM and headed to Fishermans' Wharf for the Citation and ceremonial "Creeking" of Mr. Jeff Brown....Don met us there to enjoy the festivities....Great day and great job to Otter, Steady and Jeff...thanks to Don for coming by the house to drink a couple of beers and he even wanted to get bloody so he cleaned the YFT...here's some shots....Bob

Had Steady, Surfer Dave, Keith and Mike (Gusman) onboard today. We had fun..ended the day with 1 Wahoo, 4 Mahi and a few missed fish...Fed a White Marlin and had him hooked up, handed off the rod to Keith..all he could do was hold on while the fish was tearing out line....he jumped off while we were clearing lines.Had 1 Tuna bite that we know of that didn't come tight....Water was crystal Blue out there today and around 80 degrees. Lots of Marlin caught today for the Tournament.....Great working with Persistance and Wired up today...Talked with Billable while we were running in, they were still heading out and getting ready for the night chunk/swordfish bite...hope they get into them...Bob

Norfolk Canyon 8 July 2007 Citation YFT

After a late night call from Don stating he was still 10 miles off the beach we scrambled and put another man in the Back. So it was myself, Otter, Steady, Surfer Dave and TEX (guys who caught his first YFT last week and it was a citation).Left Owls Creek around 0400 and had lines in at 0610. 5 minutes and we get a small Mahi on the Sea witch. Troll around and find a Post that had just thousands of bailers on it so we pulled out the spinning gear and played with them for a bit. Put enough to make a few sandwitches and called Mega Bite over to get his charte some bailing action.Trolled south from the mahi and finally get a Tuna Bite, had 5 rods go down all tight....then all of a sudden a big ass Blue Marlin eats the Get Reel Tiki Bar and commences to pull it through the entire spread knocking 3 fish off the lines, he dropped the TIki bar and hammeered the WTFB and screamed drag on an 80 2 speed before the 80Lb Fluro decided to part ways...nice fish...we land 2 of those Tuna...get a few more knock downs but nothing tight....getting ready to call lines in when a single 40Lb class YFT east a Get Reel Tiki Bar (again)..boat him...so we go 3 for 8 on the tuna and boat about 20 Bailer Mahi....great day on the water....Bob

Norfolk canyon 6/30/2007

weather man could not have been more wrongererererer....Left Owls Creek at about 0345 Am to a wind free slick ass calm ride out to the norfolk Canyon...slipped between a couple of rainstorms (no lightening) and pulled up in the TIP of the canyon at approximately 0610 and deployed lines. Had myself, Steady24 , his buddies Tex and Jeff (great guys). only one guy responded to my post for a ride and he had to back out late last night (no his fault) so had myself, 2 anglers and steady....First hit was a double hookup on gaffers in the eastern mouth of the Canyon...no debris just two knockdowns ...good show and got em both in the boat...trolled into the South Wall of the canyon and had a Get Reel TIKI Bar with e G&H Chugger behind (yes, I put the two of them together and they didn't burst into flames !)..this hit comes tight and screams drag...blow up on the 2nd Tiki Bar and he doesn't come tight.....Tex is on the rod, harnessed him up and spent the next 30 - 40 minutes fighting this tough fish...he was a fighter for sure....Steady sticks him and Jeff is right behind with a short gaff and put the fish in the boat..first thoughts was Big-eye but turned out to be a YFT, nice one...He ended up going 72Pounds at the scales for a YFT Citation for Tex.troll in behind waterdog after he hooks up and three lines go down..hum, 3 lines, 3 anglers and somebody to drive the boat...we work it out and get 2 out of the 3 in the boat.......both fish are 55 plus pounds...very nice class of YFT this year....get cleaned up turn around in the middle of the canyon....lines out and immediatley both Tiki Bars get hammered again..both tight for a bit and then one pulls.....get the 2nd fish to the boat and lost him at the gaff !......put two more stray Gaffer Mahi in the boat....troll troll...look at my watch and it's only like 930 or 1000 AM....dam...about 500 boats show up at the canyon and bite turns off ...we pulled lines and headed in.....wind had kicked up a bit but not bad...gorgeous day out there with no thunderstorms or scary winds....I always say..you don't know unless ya go....Bob

Oregon Inlet Tuna Tournament 5/31 - 6-2 2nd Place !

we had a couple of good days of fishing.....On Friday we decided to check out that body of warm water out at the 800 line in the deep. water/break looked good, lots of life and marks....right after we put our spread out a Monster slob of a fish crashed my shotgun spreader bar but didn't come tight...he was big....lots of marks out there but that was the only Tuna we saw...did catch a couple of small gaffers....Decided at about 10:15 to hit the 700 line in 100 fathoms where we had caught a bunch the week prior..while running in at about 500 fathoms we saw a couple of charter boys stopped and looked like they were bailing dolphin off the bow....Not Dolphin...50# class YFT..they were on top destroying some little tinker mackerals and the charter boys were netting bait and live baiting them....we circled and circled around them and pulled 4 nice fish off that bunch of fish...Friday was epic..the most air time I've ever seen for the Tuna they were flying everywhere....anyways...we ended up weighting in a 55, 50 and 43 for 148# for the first day....put us in 10th place..Talked that night and decided it was going to be quality vice quantity on Saturday so we rigged all big baits and islanders to try and get a Big-eye bite....had the big bars and big islanders out all day....only had two hits...first one was a 45# YFT on the pink spreader bar shotgun....2nd 1 was the money fish...he half spooled a 50 with about 20 pounds of drag set and it was on....we harnessed up Steady and he put a hurting on the fish and his back !...he fought for about 35 minutes before we got color....we were all business until we actually got the fish in the boat.....Mike Winner stuck him in the throat and Otter was right behind him with a 2nd gaff shot to the head....got him in the boat and it was party time....he ended up going 106#...nice fish .....we fished until three (lines out) with only a couple more hits but nothing came tight.....Ended up with 3 fish cumulative 211 pounds which put us in 2nd place by 4 pounds......big fish 106 and somebody had a 106.5, half a dam pound !...but we were stoked....the winner board looked pretty funny1st place "first Crack" 55 Spencer 215 pounds2nd place "Still Think'n" 28 Southport outboard 211 pounds3rd place "Sea Wolfe" 65 foot something (Hatteras) 205 poundsWe got 2nd biggest 3 fish, 2nd biggest fish and 1st place outboard divisioin...of course we were the only one in the outboard division !...hahah..but we'll take it.....Good time, good crew...had a few drinks with Bob Sinclair and his crew.....outstanding food and drinks...good run tournament.....Bob

Fished on board Still Think'n wioth Don, Otter, Jeff and my Don's nephew Jake. Ran out to the 700 line. Fund water around 68 degrees. First hit comes on the Cedar plug in the wash. Rod goes to jake and he fights and we land his first Atlantic YFT...scales around 50 pounds!!! Keep working area and Blue and White witch goes off on the left long...Fat Beard on the job. Fights to the boat and break off...lost tuna. Regroup and lines out...Tiki Bar goes screaming, second Tiki Bar gets hit and hit again, left long gets a rock...only first Tiki comes tight and Jeff gets his tuna.Work south to the 670 around lunch, Jake gets his second Tuna off long rigger blue/white witch in among a pod of dolphin. Find tuna birds working an area over really hard with a slick and the scent of a feeding going on. We troll through several times and no takers. Must have just missed it by ten minutes.Had a mystery fish playing with a bait aroudn mid day in some warmer 75 degree water...never saw it, so not sure.Final tally...3 YFT to 50 pounds, lost 2 at the boat and missed several others in the spread. Great day on Still Think'n with the crew. Wind was up and made things a bit snotty...nothing the Southport couldn't handle!! Good day fellas...thanks for the day!!!

20May Oregon Inlet Trip

got to the fishing center with Steadman and Otter...Met Mike (Gusman) of G&H Lures....we were the ONLY boat at the ramps at 0520...wind was blowing pretty good but it was west/southwest....got in line behind the charter fleet and had a pleasant run out to the 550 line in about 150 Fathoms where the break was....lines were in for about 3 minutes before we had a triple header...it was pretty much good action all day on the Mahi....only heard and saw 1 YFT caught today..there was a blue Marline hooked up but he got off....we were visited by about 3 billfish today but with tight drags and tight outriggers they didn't come tight....ended the day with 14 Gaffers...all quality fish....Otter got his Biggest Mahi today...seas were really not bad today...was able to make 30Kts comfortably both in and out...lots of wind early but quieted down offshore later...inshore wind was whipping pretty good when we got back in....Hot lures of the dayGet Reel TIKI BarG&H sea witches and chuggers....our planer got hammered while trolling a orange and black islander by a pretty nice bull.....great day with great people.....Bob

Oregon Inlet Report 5/12/2007

We orginally set our mark to stop right at the point as that is where the water was the day before...upon getting to the 100Fathom line at the point water was still ugly green and 65 degrees...so I kept Still THink'n heading SE into the deeper. between the 500 and 1000 fathom mark, about 10 miles SE of the point we noticed a hard break...a line of pure green and beautiful Blue water with a 10 degree temp difference in the distance of about 50 yards....that is the line we trolled all day..it went on in a NE/SW direction for as far as the eye could see.Deployed a spread of Blue/White sea witches, get reel Conga lines/shooters, Get reel TIKI Bar (that bar is the sh!t)...we were the only boat fishing the break for some reason..anyway..immediately the Planer pops up and pulls drag...then goes slack....you got it..>WAHOO Bite-off...I rigged up a Hatteras Cheater (putting a bit of wire where the hook connects to prevent bite offs.....and get the spread out again...3 minutes later Planer pops again....this time fish comes right to the top and it's a big (really nice) Mahi...immediately 5 other lines go down...we do the Dolphin dance for about 10 minutes and land all 6 fish and get em in the FIsh Box....rerig and get lines out again....troll NE along the break and get a triple header on the Mahi.....well this goes on for a while and I get a call from Albratross (a boat from VaBeach that we kinda met on the road down to Oregon Inlet)...they were having no luck and were wondering how we were doing.....I gave him our numbers and about 15 minutes later here comes the Fleet (Charter Fleet)....rest of the day was picking off double header dolphin and single dolphins until the Wahoo hit.....the Wahoo hit the right long rigger which was a blue and white islander on the top....only thing we picked up on the Planer were the 3 biggest Mahi...We weighed one of the Mahi at Oregon inlet and it went 22 pounds...we found a bigger Mahi in the bottom of the box when we unloaded at my house that went 27 pounds....30#'s is a citation in Carolina....

Finally got some Tuna pullage again thanks to the invite from Fishdad (Mike) and his wonderful wife lanie ! We made a hardcore 95 mile run from his homeport of the Salt Ponds (Hampton) to about the 950 line in 750 fathoms of water. Found a little temp break which went from the mid 50's to mid 60's and deployed about a 8 or 9 rod spread...First knockdown within about 15 minutes and we boated on of the two hits nice 47 inch Blue Fin Tuna. Put the spread out again and a while later get another double knockdown, one came tight again and put another 48 Inch Blue Fin Tuna in the boat. Weather started getting iffy so we pulled lines at about 2Pm and headed in. Wonderful day with wonderful people. Thanks for taking me fishing Mike !.....Bob

Pulled Still Think'n into Owls creek Ramp area to be met by a line of boats waiting to head out. Met Andrew and Jason who proceeded to load up their stuff and get onboard so we could head out. Got the boat floated, out the inlet and pointed her south. made it down to Corolla lighthouse by around 0730 or so and was marking bait so we put the spread out....nothing biting there. WIred up showed up and put a spread out. We heard of a bite back up at the state line so we both pulled lines and headed north to the line. Saw tons and tons of bird working, a few boats and marking fish solid all over the place.Put the spread out and not 5 minutes later...BAM....nice fish on a Mojo, jason has never caught a fish over 22 inches so we gave it to him, turned out to be a nice 44 inch fish, which went immediately into the box. Pretty much non stop action until 1000 at which time we limited out with sever fish over 40 inches, a couple in the 30's...all nice class of fish. Lines in and headed home by 10.....great day out there......here's a couple of shot....Oh yea before I forget....5 of the fish came on the G&H mojo lures made by (GUS), the other 3 came on green umbrella rig, 2 on the trailer and one on one of the arms...I had a 16 ounce inline on one and a 10 ounce inline on the other one....awesome day out there......BobP.S. the fish passed the Dachhounds inspection !...lol

Fished day 2 and had a pretty good day. Caught some nice fish in the same area as yesterday but only ended up with 99 pounds total..still...some hogs were caught....most of the fish the last two days were caught slow trolling live eels. 1-11-07 day one mid atlantic shootout

Well...we headed north today about 20 miles to a place called ship shoal inlet. we had a pretty steady bite all by ourselves but no monsters. we put some points on the board but nothing near what we need to do. The first 7 places in the shootout weighed over 100 pounds for 3 fish....1st place is chesapeake Angler with 123 pounds...man..that a 41Pound average....we're gonna do it up tomorrow for the big money...we did snag a couple of nice flounder and a bunch of sharks also...no specifics until after the tourney.....here's some shots

Had the good Captain Fatbeard onboard today. Went to the same general location as yesterday and found the fish. Birds were working and fish were being marked. managed 2 fish before the armada arrived and began causing complete Chaos. Went a bit north and worked with Capt Dave on Billable Ours and Owen and crew on Felix the Cat. Pulled two more fish out of the area and called it a day early. Have to spend a little time at home over the weekend !....Be looking for reports on the Mid Atlantic Rockfish Shootout coming over the next couple of day....until then tight lines !....Bob

Otter and I ended up going out around 11 on Saturday the 6th. Had a couple of cancellations so we decided to just go ahead and hit it up...weather was a bit bumpy at the beginning of the day but smoothed our really nice. Water temp was 55 degrees. Based on a tip at the Ramp we decided to make a right out of Rudee Inlet and run down to false cape area. Pulled up a bit north of False cape, just south of the pier in about 40 feet of water. Great marks and bird action. managed to pull a limit of some pretty nice fish. 2 went 40 inches and were nice and fat. My digital scale was on the fritz so we didn't weight them but I'm thinking around 30# or so. Here's a couple of shots

otter and I decided about noon to run out and see what was happening....Got underway right around 1PM and ran out off the Ramada where Don and Dave were catchng some fishies this morning.....about 10 minutes after we get lines in this big gigantic Rampage comes bearing down on us...I thought he was gonna RAM us...lol...It was Grady man in Water Dog coming by to say hi and tell us where the bite was...Big Huge Gigantic Thanks to Kent and Crew for the intel, it paid off big time...Mosey'd on up to Cape Charles in about 25 feet of water and the Gannets were going off man....put out a spread and BAM....40 Inch Rock in the boat....OK..must be fish here....Put out again...BAM 41 Incher in the boat......Cool..we've been fishing for like 30 minutes.....OUt again....bam bam bam...all blue fish..nice ones too....Then the doldrums hit...we went 15 minutes without a hit...and then BAM...36 incher in the boat....OK..one more and we can head home.....BAM 34 incher in the boat on the Daisey chain...while taking this one off the hook something hammers the spoon way back...I said Throw that fish back..the one on the way back is bigger....nice 38 incher in the boat...Limit..lines out at 3PM and mosey on home...

11-11 Norfolk Canyon

Well..we didn't kill em like last weekend, although there was an awesome bite at the 200 line and south....We went 3 for 4 on the Tuna....lost a couple of small Mahi ( they were lost or something)....Water at the Canyon was 65.3 Degrees...tons of Bait but all bites today were singels for everybody in the Canyon..there were 3 or 4 other boats out there, everybody else was SOUTH....This was VaBch117's First tuna and another guy who rode with us today named Wayne....his first Tuna....It was a very good time...I'll post some Pics shortly......For Billable....There's a special shot of Otter's Disco Boots I took just for you today

Put the boat in the Water at Owls Creek at 0330 this morning, temp was reading about 33 degrees, frigging freezing....Underway for the warm Water eddy at the 030 line in about 100 Fathoms or so. Go tthere at approximately 0700 or so...put out a full spread, sea witches, islanders, Cedar Plugs, spreader bars....about 0730 we had our first fish on the Blue/White sea witch..boated about a 35 pound YFT. Marked it with my MOB and made another run through there....Nice YFT slams the Cedar Plug in the prop wash...I love a flatline bite....boated this guy, he probably goes 40 or so...troll my MOB mark a couple more times with nadda...troll back north and get to about the 50 line and we get our first triple header of the day....land all three fish in the 40 pound class....troll through again and get a couple of hits but don't come tight....pick up a couple of more singles, mostly on Blue white Islanders, Get Reel conga line...G&H Islander (lost my G&H Lure today)...hit the 100 line, water goes from 71.4 to 72.5, get another triple header..land them all...one more after that in the box...we probably had at least 20 hits today...boated a total of 11, 30 pound to probably 50 pound class YFT...had Otter, Paul, Joe, John and myself onboard..great day...here's a couple of Pics...Bob

Oregon Inlet 10/26/2006

Hitched up Still Think'n and headed south around 0315AM. Onboard myself, Otter, Brian steadman and Owen (FelixtheCat). Met Owen down there around 0515 or so, put the boat in the water and followed the fleet out in pitch black conditions. Inlet was a bit bumpy but not bad. Temperature was a brisk 34 Degrees, felt like a striper trip for sure !. Lines i around 0745 or so at the 650 in approximately 50 - 75 Fathoms. Water a nice 73Degrees and clear green with some mixed Blue water patches. Watched charter boys pick at singles and double until around 1100 when it was finally our turn. First fish was on the WWB Boone Bird/Green machine. Otter's on the pole, puts up a good fight and Steady sticks him..nice fish probably 40 pound class YFT. Lines out again and Blue/White sea witch gets slammed. This fish is screaming drag off the reel, Steady's up on this one...after the blazing run and then decent fight we knew it was a Hoo....Otter sticks the gaff and nice Citation 40# wahoo in the boat. Lines out again. Blue and White GLH islander lure gets hammered hard...Owen's on this one, nice fight on the fish and STick another nice YFT, head shot by otter !.....30TW blue/white get reel shooter goes off, short rigger, they decide to be gracious and give me the rod...get another nice YFT to the boat, have him on leader and we take a bit wave on the side, the boat slams the fish right as otter is getting ready to stick him, pisses him off real bad, he takes off, leader, swivel and get reel shooter in tow...he's gone !...Get lines in again, right long goes off, blue/white islander, Owen's on this one. Again, screaming run of about 100 yards of line, the kind of run that makes your blood boil !...awesome sound...Owen wrestles another big Hoo to the boat, this one goes 42#, 2nd citation of the day....Throw in a couple of small bailer Mahi on the cedar plugs and we complete the Meat slam out of Oregon Inlet. Still Think'n ate up the seas, a great day out there with some awesome company...Here's some action shots from the day

WHITE MARLIN on Still Think'n 9/23/2006

Rough and Windy day today. Winds were 15 - 25 with 4 - 6 seas to start the day. Went on the troll around the 44 Fathom wreck with a bunch of Charters who overnighted. lines in at 0830 and at 0900 fish hits the Blue Conga line with Ballyhoo on the right Long rigger, let go of the bait and went over to the Blue and White Islander and hooked up. Brian Steadman thought it was a Tuna but I saw the bill and yelled Marlin. Otter and Paul were Billfish virginis so I asked Brian to pass the rod, Otter was first on it and he fough the nice White to the boat where we boated the 65# estimated white and got a couple of Pictures. I have been advised to take some photography lessons due to the quality of the shots. I thought I did a pretty good job !.....Boat is in for repairs and will probably be a few weeks before we get out again. Seas ended the day with 20 - 30Kts SW wind and about 5 - 9 steep waves, Southport handled it just fine though...

Mahi Mahem 9/10/2006

Fished the 400 line and north today. Found a great Temp break went from 70 - 74 in less than a mile. Awesome weedline which we started to troll. Picked up 10 nice Gaffer dolphin to 15 pounds. Trolled through the Norfolk canyon looking for YFT but only ended up with a Skipjack. Went back to the weedline and ended the day bailing 33 nice fatty Dolphin. Otter had a nice citation Mahi on the Big Blue Marlin lure but he pulled the hook. Great day, weather was nice but was turning ugly really quick. 5 - 8 foot Rollers were no problem.

Fished with just Paul and myself on the 3rd of September. Started a troll at the 44014 weather buoy and immediately had a nice Wahoo hit the WWB Green Machine on my new Boone Bird. Fish pulled the hook but it gave us hope. Trolled around for a while with a few hits and then Wired Up called us into a nice weed patch. We started pulling Mahi left and right, had 4 rods go down at once and then had a triple header. With just two on the boat it was fun to say the least. We came off the troll and went ahead and bailed our limit of 20 Mahi to end the day. Got a call from Billable Ours looking for action so we called them into the weed patch where they caught 40 plus Mahi...Great day on the water....

Va Beach Blue Water Classic 8/19

Fished the Blue Water Classic on the 19 of August. Weather was beautiful, big rollers and scattered weed. Fished the Cigar area and weather Buoy. No Bills for us this weekend but we did manage to troll up a bunch of Bailer Dolphin. The Tuna and Wahoo are still eluding Still think'n this year for the most part but we've got our fair share of Mahi Mahi....Here's some shots.

Departed Owls creek at approximately 1200. Onboard myself, Jeanette, Paul, Trish, Heather, Josh, Meagan, Kelly, Elizabeth. Cruised over to the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel and anchored up. Put out a few lines with some squid and Clam snouts and immediately started catching croakers, Black Sea Bass, a small shark was caught by Elizabeth. Had a general good time. Pulled the anchor around 4PM and headed back to Owls Creek. Saw some Dolphins and lots of small rays or skates swimming through the water. Good time was had by all.

14 July VB Tuna Tournament

Well....we fished north at the Washington Canyon area for the first time on Saturday. The tournament we were in called for lines in at 0730...we were in place at 0645 and had fish all over the area we stopped in however we could not get lines in. We watched fish roll for 40 minutes, then at lines in everything went down. I believe it was due to the Full moon that fish were feeding early. trolled all day with basically two Mahi which we picked up off some boards. Had one White Marlin crash our spreader bar a few times but did not come tight. The best bite this weekend came for people chunking for Tuna vice Trolling. Notice the slick calm conditions out there, the weather man called for 4 - 7 seas with 15 - 25 Kt wind. There was 0 wind and 2 - 3 south swell with waves about 15 minutes apart. Great time with Don, Otter, George, Brian Stedman and Todd. until next time....Capt Bob out

4th of July Report VaBeach

Departed Owls Creek at 0430 destination the 10th Fathom hump SW of the Cigar. Onboard Paul, Otter, Don and myself. Arrived at the hump at 0630, 3 lines in the water and BAM...Blue-Fin commits suicide on a cedar plug. Don makes short work of him and he's in the boat. Start trolling towards the Cigar...fight really bad sargassum grass the entire way. Pick up a Gaffer Dolphin on the Cigar, head east to deeper water but no bites. Backlash landed a Blue Marlin a few miles from where we were on a spreader bar. trolled back towards the hump and pick up 3 more nice Gaffer Mahi's. Hot lures were Cedar Plug and Get Reel Lure TCB. Experienced Electrical problems due to wiring on the boat. Lost my Furuno GPS/Fishfinder and lost power to my trim tabs. Had backup Garmin GPS up so we were good to go. Seas were 3 - 5 laying down to 2 -4 later in the day. Had about a 10 - 12Kt SSW wind all day. made the ride in very nice !.....gotta put the boat in for repairs at Ski Boats Unltd so probably last report until the Virginia Beach Tuna Tournament.

7/1 report Virginia Beach

Well...we did our first run out of Virginia Beach on a beautiful, calm day. Onboard I had myself, Paul Westrich, Patrick Camacho, Ray Camacho, Tony Deunos, and John Hamilton. We left Owls Creek promptly at 0430AM along with a few other boats. Our first destination was the fingers to get in on a good Blue Fin bite. We had our first blue fin (40 Pounds) in the boat by 0730. We were being covered up with blue fish so we moved over to the Norfolk Canyon and fished there for a few hours with no fish. Pulled lines and headed to Waynes world, on the way we spot a trash back floating and stopped, put a couple of lines in and caught a gaffer Bull dolphin. Stopped and chummed for a few minutes and hooked up with the cow, The Penn spinner broke drag and the fish got off. trolled the area for a while, saw a BLue Marlin sunning himself, did not bit, saw a couple of large sharks, unknown species. tons of turles out there today. pulled lines to head back into the fingers for a little more blue fin action. On the way trolled passed a 2x4 and pulled another Mahi off that. ended the day with 1 Blue Fin, 2 Dolphin and a bunch of blue fish. Had fun with all the In-laws.....until next time....Bob

Rudee Inlet 6/10-6/11

Left Rudee Inlet 0430 on the 10th. Nice ride out Southport was cruising at 38 Kts to a point approximately 60NM southeast east of the 44014 weather buoy. Had Myself, Otter, Dustin, Brian Stedman and Dave onboard for a hopefully fruitful day of fishing. Had lines in the water by 0630 in approximately 68 - 69degree water. No hits for a while and then the winds kicked up to 20 - 30Kts sustained. pulled lines at approximately 1130 and started the long trek home. 5 hours later after running into a steady head wind and seas which were 5 - 8 we finally made it home. Dustin had a spill and messed up his foot and knee, he said he'll be fine but he will be signing waivers when he comes out on Still Think'n from now on, this is his 2nd spill on the boat.

6/11 decided to sleep in and make a late run out to the hot dog to load up on some blue fish for the family down in Union. Just myself and otter onboard this time. Made it to the fishing grounds at approximately 1030 and put a couple of lines out, before we could deploy any other rods had 2 Blue fish on the Penn 320's with stretch 30's out. That was it...non-stop action for the next hour on the Penn's. Ended up keeping 12 Bluefish for the family and decided to pull ines and head in. Home by 2PM...that's a nice day of fishing for sure. Again, the weather man really blew it the whole weekend. Even yesterday the winds were 15 - 20 sustained with some good 4 - 6 footers inshore. The southport ate the 4 - 6 up though, we cold maintain a steady 22 - 25Kts for the ride in. Water temp was 67 degrees at the hot dog with clear green water. 6/2 6/3 oregon inlet fishing report

Fished Friday and Saturday out of oregon inlet. Fishing was a bit slow but we caught some quality fish. Onboard was Don, Mike, Otter and myself. Fished slightly north and east of the point in 72 - 74 degree water. Catches included 1 71.6 pound tuna, a couple of small 10 - 15 pounders and 3 nice dolphin, biggest going 19.6. 5/13/2006 Oregon Inlet Fishing Report

We left Virginia Beach at 0400 on Saturday morning in route to Oregon Inlet for a day of fishing. We arrived there at approximately 0600 and was underway by 0630 or so. Water was a bit choppy on the way out but smoothed our really nicely once we found the warm water. We went approximately 42NM due south to where the gulf stream was. We just had our spread out when o ur first Dolphin of the day hit. Things were a bit slot after that with a dolphin here and there. Ended the day with 7 Mahi Mahi....and some really beautifuly pictures of some porpoises that were playing around my boat. Pulled lines at 330PM and hom back in virginia beach at 7PM.....Bob

Cape Hatteras Report

Well we made the run from va Beach to Hatteras yesterday with Myself, Mike (rockn Robin), Don (Skinny skid) and Paul and boy did we have a fun day....left my house at 0330AM with Still Think'n in Tow and made it to Cape Hatteras at 0630....we were underway by 0645 after stretching our legs a bit..Made the run due south out of the inlet about 30 Nautical miles to where we thought the water was going to be based on the latest non cloud covered sat shot. Upon arriving we only found water about 66 - 67 degrees and about 8 charters trolling the exact same area...we put lines out and trolled the semi-break where the water went from 62 - 66 fairly quikly but we had no hits for a while. We pulled lines and started running due east to find the water...between the 500 and 1000 Fathom line we found the 72 - 76 degree water and started trolling in there. Mike (Rockn Robin) spotted a beautifiul weed line right in a nice rip so we trolled this line...We had a few big spreaders out and we noticed the Dolphin were running away from our spread...we saw them actually jumping away from our baits so we pulled all the big gear out and put out some skirted Bally hoo with some Get Reel skirts....Bam...finally the long rigger goes down and right after the short rigger goes down...get a couple of nice dolphin in the boat...put the spread out again and while trolling spotted a little 2x4 boart with a bunch of dolphin swimming underneath...put the breaks on and started chopping up old Ballyhoo for a little chunking...left the long lines out just in case something else came along and let them sink down while stopped....After getting about 3 schoolies and loosing about 5 schoolies while messing around with em we pulled the long lines in and had a couple of nice Dolphin on them....Ended the day keeping 7 Dolphing from about 8 - 17 pounds..we could have stayed and bailed all day but we wanted to troll for some Wahoo or Tuna...We never did find them...I believe the Tuna and Wahoo had moved north of us to the 400 line..we were fishing the 000 line between 500 and 1000 fathoms.getting ready to troll back in Mike asked me how fast I thought the southport would go...that's all I need to hear...lines in...secure all gear...hammer down....Seas were flat calm like a summer lake and got the boat going around 51 MPH with Full tank of gas and full crew onboard...awsome baby....

Cape Hatteras Report 4/1 - 2

here's the whole story of this weekend...haul the boat down there Friday night...get there oh..around 630 or so....check into our hotel (Hatteras Marlin) which was totally awesome by the way...pull the boat down to Teaches Lair and put it in the lot across the way...lots of room...We have a few beers that night...well Otter had more than a few..lol...and hit the rack...I held revelee on everybody at 0400.....we're on the road by five with no breakfast.....get down to teaches and lauch the boat...tie up until one of the charters goes out so we can follow them and get a good track for the inlet....well...on a side note...no other boats launched that morning (hum)....winds blowing about 15 - 20 out of the southwest....figure it won't be toooo bad.....Well..the Marlin mania finally pulls lines at 0600 so we saddle in behind her and follow through the inlet. Inlet isn't too bad..probably 4 - 5 swells coming in so we handle that with no problems....there's already about 5 or 6 big boys already through the inlet from other marina's so we get in formation and follow them out..not bad 4 - 5 footers...southport was eating it up....we appear to be heading out to the rock pile so we run for about 45 minutes to an hour and notice it getting steadily bigger as the run goes on...probably 5 - 7 with a good steady 20 - 25 knot wind....get into some warm water and drop lines along with a few other charter boys and start trolling....within an hour of trolling the wind had kicked up to a steady 30 - 35 Kt SW wind with gust at or above 40...seas pick up to at least 8 - 10 with some bigger swells in the mix....everybody is kinda quiet as we troll through these mountains of water...finally when we start seeing breakers higher than my boat I make the call to pull lines and head in as the forecast called for worsening conditions that afternoon....quiet run back in....as Don said...everybody was getting right with god as we had no clue with the inlet was going to look like...We get back inshore to colder water and it was much better inshore...probably 3 - 5 again....inlet was fine coming back in so we all breathed a sigh of relief and put the boat back on the trailer and went back to the room....Don, Mike and Dustin all had a beer, ate a sandwich and crashed out..it was only like 11Am at this time...Sunday morning conditions are much better..we all excited about the day...we hooked up with Todd30 night before and he met us at the ramp...Megabite and his crew had already left by this time....well Todd is going to follow us through the inlet as he hadn't been out before...we all pull lines and get ready to leave Teaches lair again and Todd calls on the radio telling us his Motor was shot...so he has to pull back out and head back up to Richmond ! Sucks..but probably for the best as the inlet was especially angry that morning...It was the first time My boat had ever been stood vertical like that...giant swells rolling in the mouth of the inlet with breakers in the mix...but we get through it....head out to the stream and find awesome spot.....Megabite was already there working it...don't know if he had any luck or not but it sure looked good...birds...seaweed and warm water..not a knockdown...and that's pretty much the way it went all day for us....Don did manage to pull in a Puffer Fish that somehow found our hook and decided to snag himself....that was pretty funny....We pulled lines at around 115 Pm or so as we had a long ride back to VaBeach with no fish......sea conditions were probably 3 -5 may be slightly bigger...Had a great time despite lack of pullage.....Wondering how Jason, Keith and crew did...Oh yea...we went on Gradyman's new boat and had a beer...what a beautiful 38Rampage...that beast is rigged for some serious fishing for sure...congrats on that purchase.....I believe he was also out there Sunday..we were the only knuckleheads out there on Saturday for some rason !....lol......

This will be where we post our Fishing Reports. We run in a 28'6 Southport Center Console out of Virginia Beach. We had an outstanding Striper Season and are just now gearing up for Offshore Tuna Fishing. Here's a couple of Pictures...We will update this Blog after every fishing trip, the first offshore will be 24 - 26 of March out of Cape Hatteras North Carolina. Targeted species Yellowfin/BlueFin Tuna, Mahi Mahi, Wahoo, Marlin (white/blue).
